Today is my mom's birthday. Happy Birthday, Mom!
And, to be clear, it's not that I don't appreciate the experience of going somewhere and having someone else prepare delicious food for me, and then cleaning up afterwards. It's the COST of eating in restaurants for 3 weeks that has me just a tad worried. But we might be able to use the kitchen earlier than that, so it might work out.
Also, I thought we had to have the tiles for the kitchen floor by tonight, but it turns out I was wrong, so it looks like we might be able to wait for my favourite ones (which are on back order, of course) to come in.
Gotta say, never thought I'd be that worried about tiles. It's funny the things you turn out to have strong opinions on. I'm starting to actually feel like a homeowner, with the amount I have invested into this reno.
Yesterday we rented a cargo van from U-Haul to get rid of a bunch of furniture (which we gave to the guy who runs the Victoria Event Centre, rather than the St. Vincent de Paul people, which was our original plan until it occurred to Alex on Friday evening to find out whether Colin could use the stuff. This is a man who has dedicated himself to providing an affordable arts venue in this city; really, given who we are and what we do, we'd rather support that than the Church.
My point, however, is that yesterday I drove a huge freakin' behemoth around the city, and once again no-one - and nothing - was injured. Wheeee! (Unlike that one time? In Montreal? When I rented a cube van and let Vinny drive it? Yeah.) Since this is the same cargo van we've rented to drive to Vancouver and pick up our kitchen next week, it's good to know. :P
Today is our last day to pack shit up and get it out of the condo so that the space is clear for the contractors to start tomorrow morning. Goddamn we have a lot of shit. On the plus side, we are also getting rid of a lot of it, which is an amazingly freeing process. I never really used to collect a lot of stuff because I moved every year or two (at least) and went through the process of getting rid of stuff regularly, but we've been in this condo for 4 1/2 years now (the longest I've lived in any one place, if you consider that it was my permanent address while I was in Sudbury, since I was...goddamn, this might be the longest I've ever lived in any one dwelling! Mom? Erica? Can you think of another one?), so the stuff has PILED UP.
But no longer! :)
