Sorry, Amy, and anyone else who may have been waiting for an update on how the show went...

It went okay. I was not so excited about playing the maitre d', but it went as anticipated. Which was not particularly enjoyable, but at least not overwhelmingly painful. We were supposed to be regular hotel staff for the first hour, but increasingly wacky. Well, that build up didn't go so well just because there weren't a lot of people there at first, so it was hard to do much of anything. But there were still some pretty funny small-scale interactions.

The second part, the regular show, was...okay. Players had, shall we say, commitment issues. Lots of wimping, talking heads, searching for an ending, etc. It was weird improvising with new people, in a new, more formal structure than I'm used to. And there was no warm-up, because of the wacky waiter thing, and no post-mortem, because people were rushing off somewhere, so I was left feeling a little...unsatisfied. Eh.

On the plus side, I did have a lovely chat with one of the guests at the party about the comparisons between improv comedy and improv dance. She was pretty cool.

I'm beginning to understand how much familiarity plays into improv comfort. Tain't easy with people you don't know very well.

Especially when they like to do improv differently...
