I went to the Faculty of Law Wine & Cheese event last night.

I don't know if they do these things in other faculties, so for those of you not in Law - basically, a bunch of firms set up tables, students get all dressed up in suits (I wore heels for 4 hours, and then had to go play volleyball...ouch...) and try to schmooze - pardon me, network - their way into a summering or articling position.

Come to think of it, I bet they have something similar in business school. It seems right up their alley.

Anyways, I went to this event in first year, and it was agonizing for me. The thought of having to come back next year and try to really schmooze my way into a job made me want to curl up into a ball and cry. I pictured myself never getting a job, becoming that sad cautionary law school tale...

Cut back to this year, though, and as a co-op student I don't have to worry about finding a job through the summering process. So I just volunteered to help out at the Wine & Cheese, because a friend of mine was organising it, hoping to get some kind of grunt behind-the-scenes job where I wouldn't have to dress up. Instead, I was a firm liaison for 8 firms, 3 of which I would be interested in working at, and spent the evening talking to firm people about their articling positions. Go figure.

In other news, Alex and I got a land line again, same number I had before, on Tuesday. Already we're getting the funny call-at-all-hours-and-beep-in-my-ear phone calls that caused me to leave my phone turned off or unplugged for many months last year. Guess I should have though of that when I asked for my old number back...however, we're going to get my sister's gift of a call display mechanism up and running any day now, and catch those buggers!
