When did we decide that basic decency was out? Did someone forget to send me the memo? 'Cause, I gotta tell you, it's embarassing as all get out to be behind the times like that...
This morning on the bus, some poor woman with several bags got on, and the only available seat was next to a man who looked very grumpy. And he'd done that trick of sitting on the seat closest to the aisle, so the seat that was technically available was next to the window. The woman asked him to move over and let her sit down, and he just looked at her and growled.
Growled!
So she stood, with her many bags. Lots of people who were sitting down looked at her with sympathy, but not one of them thought to possibly get up and offer her their seat. Come on, people, make the connection!
And before you ask, I was also standing. Not much I could do for her. Other than possibly growl back at the growler, maybe pretend to claw at him, in hopes of intimidating him. But I thought that might just scare the poor woman with the bags. And get me thrown off the bus.
I amused myself with for the rest of the trip to work imagining people's reactions, though. :)
